What materials does Sun Valley Bronze use in its hardware?

Bronze is an alloy consisting primarily of copper. An alloy is an admixture of metals, or a metal combined with one or more other elements. What is the patina process?

The oxidation process that Sun Valley Bronze uses to create patinas is an accelerated version of natural exposure to time, touch, and environment. Repeated handling of the hardware will lead to the graceful wear of the patina. Sun Valley Bronze believes patina wear is an inherent quality of the hardware. Care & Cleaning

 

What is the best way to clean and care for Sun Valley Bronze hardware?

Bronze is naturally weather resistant, requiring very little maintenance and simple care. Sun Valley Bronze recommends cleaning bronze hardware with mild soap and water. DO NOT use abrasive or chemical-based cleaners, as they will abrade and degrade hardware surfaces. Apply several coats of high quality clear paste wax to protect the finish. Buff lightly with a clean, dry cloth. For care of polished finishes, we recommend using a clean, non-abrasive polishing cloth. Learn more →

What kind of cleaning agents can I use on bronze hardware?

Mild soap and water is the best. DO NOT use abrasive or chemical-based cleaners, as they will abrade and degrade hardware surfaces. Learn more →

Can I use bleach or ammonia on bronze hardware?

Not recommended. Alcohol doesn’t seem to harm the finish.

Can I use steel wool on bronze hardware?

Yes. 0000 steel wool is recommended.

What is the best wax to use to protect my Sun Valley Bronze Hardware?

Tre-Wax paste wax. Be sure to completely wipe off wax.

Can you use any knob or lever with any plate?

Yes, any knob or lever can be interchanged with any design of escutcheon/rose/plate that we manufacturer — with the exception of our Novus Levers (levers with a non-standard shaft). Novus levers require an escutcheon without a hub and are called out in the Specifications Manual.

How thick is a standard door?

1 3/4" seems to be the standard used with our hardware but 2 1/4" is becoming more popular. Most of our hardware starts accommodating at 1 3/8" thick.

What is the maximum door thickness for Sun Valley Bronze hardware?

What is an active and inactive door in a set of double doors?

The active door is generally the door that is used more often than the other door of the pair and is going to have the latch/lock.

Are Sun Valley Bronze door hinges adjustable?

Yes. They are adjusted by removing the finial and using an Allan key to adjust the hinge vertically.

Barn Door Hardware

 

What do I need for a sliding barn door?

An opening and a door! :) You will need to determine door thickness, width of opening, single or double door, and projection of the door to wall/moulding needed.

Can you hang any door on sliding barn door hardware?

Pretty much. Wood and glass doors have been the most used. Each barn track roller is rated for about 350lbs!

Can a customer order split-finish parts?

Deadbolts, Locks & Latches

 

Is a deadbolt more secure than other bolts or locks?

No. A deadlock is more secure.

Why are deadlocks more secure?

Deadlocks are more secure because they are built out of thicker material and are larger in size. Deadlocks are also designed to last longer, have more function options, and offer a wide variety of backsets.

Does Sun Valley Bronze offer deadbolts and deadlocks on extra thick doors?

Can I convert a single cylinder deadbolt to a double cylinder deadbolt?

Can I convert a double cylinder deadbolt to a single cylinder deadbolt?

What is a reversible lock?

A lock that may be applied to a door opening in either direction or hinged to either jamb. With this type of lock you can switch the handing manually.

What does single vs. double cylinder mean?

Single cylinder has a key on one side of the door and turn-piece on the other. Double cylinder uses a key on both sides of the door to retract the deadbolt or deadlatch.

What is the difference between a tubular lock and a mortise lock?

A mortise lock is more secure than a tubular lock and has greater longevity as it is made with premium parts internally, making the use of hardware smoother and easier.

How does a mortise lock work?

How a mortise lock works depends on its function. Please check in with your dealer to learn more about the various options available for mortise locks.

Yes! They need to be replaced with the same center to center dimension pull and fastener appropriate to the thickness of the door and material of the door. What is the best finish for bathroom fixtures?

Sun Valley Bronze highly recommends selecting Raw White Bronze (W) or Raw Silicon Bronze (S) finishes for all plumbing hardware.  W and S finishes can be cleaned with 0000 steel wool and clear paste wax.  Our Burnished White Bronze (W1), Burnished Silicon Bronze (S1) and Burnished Brass (B1) finishes are also highly recommended and can be cleaned with a Scotch Brite pad, 0000 steel wool and clear paste wax. All other finishes are also available; however, these are live finishes, which are affected by the use of harsh cleansers, beauty products and the environment causing them to change with time and use.
